Welcome to our new addition

Last Saturday was a treat. The latest addition into the family pet hierarchy came in the form of the most adorable, cuddly, affable and intelligent chocolate labrador puppy. The proud parents dropped in to bring Doug for us to meet and it was love at first sight.

Doug(las) has already learnt to sit on command and is endeavouring to win over his year old playmate with his sense of humour, but alas the only reaction he is getting from said tomcat is the occasional hiss and avoidance...... for now.

Did you know that stats released state that Labrador retrievers set popularity-ranking record?
The Labrador retriever was the most popular dog breed in the US last year for a 23rd year in a row, the
American Kennel Club has announced.

I am not surprised and confess to being biased - see why!

If anyone wanst the details for the breeder please contact us.

Bye for now and remember, when facing adversity, to keep calm and find a Doug to hug.

Before we talk about how hot it has been lately let me give you the good news that Tequila, who I featured a few blogs ago, has been adopted into a very loving family. Thank you kind people!

The last few days have been intensely hot and humid for the east coast; this cat had the right idea........

Ralph, the original wild woofy.
A few months short of sixteen years ago we bought a scrappy, hairy, tiny puppy from a pet shop in Shelly Beach. Our children were so determined to have this little dog that they went to the most embarrasing ends of prostrating themselves on the floor of the centre, weeping and begging until the man of the house could bear it no longer and the aquisition of Ralph, the original Wild Woofy, took place.

As you can see in the photo above, Ralph, who has numerous aliases, is quite a looker for an old dog and his indomitable spirit married to the mind set that he is the size of a boerbul, keeps him mobile and feisty.
Of course Ralphie did not reman the children's dog for long as he found his tiny body squeezing into my jacket pockets on cold days, and developing a need to be a momma's boy. My pockets are too small now, but we remain inseparable.

Over the years he has kept people amused with his many and varied mischievous tactics, one of which was chasing lifeguards on Ramsgate beach. These life guards liked the unusual attention and never tried to drown him or meter out any other dubious form of punishment; what's with life guards allegedly trying to drown small dogs in KZN? Not good form is it? Let's hear from you about this.

Till tomorrow, take care of your cats, dog, budgies.......(sorry I don't have any affection for snakes - just saying..)

Welcome to Friday. I think this picture says it all.....

On a more serious note, PACT (Phoenix Animal Care and Treatment),has a 10 year old female dog, Tequila, whose owners are tired of her and she will be put down Monday 27 January if a foster or forever home can't be found for her.
Please contact Neeri Naidoo: 073 005 4275, Lynette Naidoo: 084 609 3962 or Cheryl Reddy: 084 307 3324 for more information about Tequila.
You can also sms PACT to 38021 to donate R10 to support this organisation and the animals in need.

Have a great weekend from all of us at Wild Woofy.

PS This is a picture of Tequila ..............

Welcome to Wild Woofy 2014

We wish you all a very healthy, safe and prosperous year.

Our friend Rupert Reid (a magnificent black labrador) of Durban, pictured in his
Wild Woofy bed, lying in his favourite position, sadly lost his twelve year old beagle companion in 2013. Rupert is now a happy boy again as his loving owners have adopted a companion for him from the Amanzimtoti SPCA and the two dogs are inseparable.

This happy ending is not always the norm and there remain too many sad situations that helpless animals find themselves in. We urge as many people as possible to support the numerous rescue shelters around the country by adopting a pet or contributing food, bedding, financial support or community hours to help with care and maintenance. Wild Woofy applauds the hard and selfless work of these rescue shelter staff members.

Future blogs will also feature different animal shelters around the country to give them the exposure that they deserve. If you would like to refer any to us we would like to hear from you. We would also like to receive anecdotes and pictures of your pets, or any other animals, to include as snippets of humour.

Remember this quote (which I received from an awesome person in Pretoria): "money will buy a fine dog but only kindness will make him wag his tail."

Bye for now. xx
